Naked Raku is created by applying colored or white slip to pots before the initial bisque firing, creating a “canvas” for the next step.
A sacrificial slip is applied for the final firing that will crack and allow carbon to create a beautiful and distinct black pattern.
A design can also be drawn in the slip allowing the carbon to seep into the “picture”, as well as the crackle.
Naked Raku pieces are not food safe!
